Why Join a Fraternity?
No two fraternities are alike. Each fraternity has it's own principals and values and IF you decide you want to be a part of one, you should do a little research and find out just which one matches you best, or if any match you at all. Here at Umass Dartmouth there a six different fraternities on campus (as of 2008), we encourage that you look into each one so that you can make the correct decision. Rush every fraternity or just one, it's all up to you.
Fraternities and Sororities are the ultimate in social networking. You'll be hard pressed to find a better way of meeting new people and making new friends. Philanthropy, fund-raisers, meeting other charges, socials with other organizations, and of course Rush. Even by just rushing a fraternity you're going to meet all the brothers and the other rushes too.
However, social networking isn't the greatest benefit to a fraternity.
The bonds created with your fellow brothers are comparable to none. Most
will have difficulty even explaining it because there are so few words that
can describe it. It has been put well by one of our brothers here at Umass Dartmouth:
Brotherhood in most fraternities lasts past college through the bonds created, but the organization also continues after college via an Alumni Association. Rest assured that joining a fraternity isn't just something to do while you're in college: it's a life-long decision and for most it is well worth it.
